What about 2027?
By law, VA compensation rates are adjusted each year, usually by the same percentage as Social Security's cost-of-living adjustment (COLA). SSA announced a 3.6% COLA for 2027 on October 14, 2026. VA typically publishes its new tables in late November or December, effective December 1. The first payment at the new rates usually arrives on or around January 1.
We're not publishing 2027 dollar amounts until VA does. VA rounds each rate under its own rules, so a quick "current rate × 1.036" will be close but may not match to the cent. You can expect your monthly rate to rise by roughly 3.6% if VA applies the same percentage.
Other things that change your pay
- Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) adds or replaces amounts for certain losses. SMC-K is $139.87 a month in 2026. See SMC.
- TDIU pays at the 100% rate. See TDIU explained.
- How ratings combine. See How VA math works.
- Back pay for past months is paid at the rate in effect for each month. Estimate it with our back pay calculator.
