What is a VA-accredited claims agent?
A non-attorney accredited by VA's Office of General Counsel after a background review and a written exam on VA law and procedure. Agents can represent claimants before VA. Verify any representative on VA's accreditation search.
Are you a law firm?
No. Advocates for Benefits is led by a VA-accredited claims agent. We are not attorneys and do not practice law. We represent claimants before VA and the Social Security Administration.
Is the claim review free?
Yes. There's no cost or obligation.
How do your fees work?
You only pay if we win. For VA matters, there's no fee for help with a claim before VA's first decision on it. After that, our fee is 20% of past-due benefits. For Social Security, 25% of past-due benefits, capped at SSA's maximum (currently $9,200).
Can you help if VA denied my claim?
Often, yes, through a Higher-Level Review, Supplemental Claim, or Board appeal. Acting within one year of the decision can protect your effective date.
Do you only work with Arkansas veterans?
No. We're based in Cabot, Arkansas, and represent veterans nationwide.
Can you guarantee a higher rating?
No. VA decides every claim, and no honest representative can guarantee an outcome. We promise a thorough review, honest advice, and careful preparation.
Can I get VA disability and Social Security disability at the same time?
Yes. VA compensation doesn't reduce SSDI. VA benefits do count as income for SSI.
What's the difference between you and a VSO?
VSOs, like the DAV or VFW, offer free accredited representation. Accredited agents and attorneys may charge regulated fees after VA's initial decision. Many veterans turn to an agent or attorney for dedicated help with denials and appeals.
Will you need my VA.gov login?
No. Never share your VA.gov or ID.me credentials with anyone. As your appointed representative, we work through VA's representative channels.
How long will my claim take?
It depends on the claim type and VA's workload. VA publishes average processing times on VA.gov. We'll give you a realistic picture for your situation.
What forms will I sign?
VA Form 21-22a to appoint us for VA matters, SSA-1696 for Social Security, and a written fee agreement where applicable.
